Publish the Number. Show Your Work.

In 2026, public access to data and the tools to examine it has changed. Hospital data no longer belongs to a small circle of people who interpret it for everyone else. Nurses can examine public records, compare claims, and use AI tools to help make sense of what they find.

As access to data and the tools to understand it expands, missing information becomes harder to hide. We know enough to recognize what should be there—and what its absence prevents us from judging.

The gaps no longer sit quietly in the background. They stand out: a percentage without a denominator, a survey without its question, a claim without its evidence.

Public data transparency means making those gaps visible and expecting institutions to account for them.

That is why the standard must change now: “Publish the number. Show your work.” Healthcare institutions are speaking to a public increasingly able to scrutinize their claims—and entitled to see what supports them.
